TRANSCRIPTION

Todd enters with the tray. [illegible] Apparently he is unaware that they have changed
places, or at least does not react. He comes on to Stevens. The tray contains a
bottle of soda, dish of ice, 3 tumblers, 3 small glasses almost filled with whisky.
The bottle itself protrudes from his side pocket. He offers the tray to Temple.

TEMPLE (looking at tray a second)
Not highballs?

She takes the first glass of whisky.

Todd
Not this one.

He offers the tray to Stevens, who takes the 2nd small whisky, sets the tray
on the table and himself takes the 3rd whisky and raises it slightly toward
Stevens. But without waiting for them, Temple drinks hers. Todd and Stevens
drink, Stevens [deliberately?], Todd almost as quickly as Temple, so that he is wait-
ing, his hand already out, before Stevens lowers his glass. Todd takes it from
Stevens' hand, sets bot of them on the tray. Then still watching Stevens,
reaches his hand for Temple's.

TODD
Now maybe devense attorney
Stevens will tell us what he
wants here.

STEVENS
Your wife has already told me.
Nothing.

GOWAN
Then let's say one more for the
road, and where's your hat, eh?
