Summary:
The next morning, the boy hunter and Sam Fathers wait for the bear with dogs; when the boy realizes his fyce is not going to stop, he throws away his gun to save his dog and in the process sees the bear up close, looking up at it "where it loomed and towered over him like a cloudburst and colored like a thunderclap" (292).
