Caddy Compson marries "an extremely eligible young Indianian" in 1910 (332). The text carefully notes she is "divorced by him" one year later, presumably when he discovers he is not the father of the child she carries (332). The unnamed figure in the Appendix corresponds with the character Sydney Herbert Head in The Sound and the Fury, a banker and former Harvard man who was expelled for cheating.
