Summary:
The narrative uses the blood of the buck Ike has killed to link Sam Fathers and the vanished Indian world he is descended from with Ike McCaslin's family history and future. The narrative's assertions that Ike "would grow up to live" in much the same manner as his grandfather, and "leave his descendants in the land" as his grandfather had are very confusing - since Ike repudiates his grandfather's actions and remains childless (157). (Those assertions are repeated from the story's earlier magazine publication, where the "boy" is Quentin Compson; Faulkner apparently overlooked the contradictions when he transformed the "boy" into Isaac McCaslin.)
