Summary: 

Cora recalls talking with Addie about her (Addie's) lack of grace, despite, she says, the way "Brother Whitfield . . . prayed for you" (167). She accuses Addie of pride, and calls Jewel Addie's "punishment" (168). Addie replies that Jewel "is my cross and will be my salvation" (168).
