TMT: 8/16/14: There's nothing specific to date this on a Thursday in August, but it makes sense to do so since Lena moves to the cabin on Wednesday evening, while the sheriff is casting the bloodhounds after Joe. On Thursday, he seems mostly to be "interested in the husband [Christmas]" that Brown "seems to have had since he come to Jefferson" (321)--thinking and waiting, in other words, while Joe seems to have disappeared.
