Notes:
TMT 17 July 2014: Because Mrs. Hines is telling this, I call it a "Told" Event, and because she seems to have conflated Doc's behavior from the time of their marriage to the arrival of the circus, I chose 1882-1896.
Summary:
Mrs. Hines tells Hightower that her husband "has been like that" for fifty years (372) - raving and fanatical, always fighting other people. On the night their daughter was born, he was in jail for fighting, and she seems to take that as emblematic of his character and their marriage.
