Mottstown|Mottson in "That Will Be Fine" (Location)
Mottstown - or as Faulkner sometimes spells it, Mottson - is the seat of the county on Yoknapatawpha's southern border. It appears frequently in Faulkner's fiction, though this is the only story centered there. As Georgie and his family arrive in the town, they "come down the last hill and into the valley where Mottstown was" (273). Georgie notes the "holly wreaths in the windows" of the houses in town, "like at home in Jefferson" (274). Also in town are the "pool hall" where Grandpa thinks Rodney can be found (279), the "stable" "up the lane" from which Rodney steals a horse and buggy (282), and the Compress Association office where Rodney works. (Cotton compression is a means to pack cotton into tighter bales for shipment than bales packed in a cotton gin. A compress association, such as the one for which Rodney works, would have been dedicated to advocating for certain standards and practices in this process.)
