Gowan takes Bucky to spend a week "with [his] grandparents in New Orleans" (136), which creates a character who does not appear elsewhere - either Gowan's mother's husband or Temple's father's wife. Since Gowan's family is local, we are assuming these grandparents are Drakes. In Sanctuary, however, Temple's family is from Jackson, Mississippi, and elsewhere in this novel Temple calls herself "the all-Mississippi debutante" (92), making the identity of these grandparents even more ambiguous.
