Summary:
The story ends at the Sartoris place. Drusilla is still unmarried, but has been appointed "voting commissioner" by John. This is no consolation to her mother, who retreats into the cabin while the white men of Yoknapatawpha, assisted by Ringo, unanimously vote not to elect Cassius Q. Benbow marshal. As the former soldiers in Sartoris' troop ride back to town, they yell their approval of both Drusilla and John.
