Notes:
Quentin arrives back to campus as the chimes sound. In Shreve’s room, Quentin removes the bloodstains from his clothing with gasoline, and realizes Jason is bothered by the fact that the first automobile owner in Jefferson is Caddy, a girl. Quentin's thoughts race through Caddy's wedding invitation and Benjy's land being sold. All the while, he is cleaning his blood stains, smelling the gasoline, and hearing his watch and the chimes of the clock as they mark the quarters of the hour. When Quentin returns to his room the gasoline smell drives him into the hall.
Summary:
Quentin returns to the dorm room he shares with Shreve, sees the note Shreve left about Mrs. Bland's picnic, and begins trying to clean the blood off his tie.
