Mr. Gombault and Mr. Pearson arrive at the McCallum family graveyard and determine where to bury Buddy's leg.
Summary:
Gombault leads Pearson uphill to the McCallum family grave site. From that high ground he explains the traditional values by which the family lives. As the men bury Buddy's amputated leg, Gombault exalts the lesson the family can teach "us" about "honor and pride and discipline that make a man worth preserving" (60).
