Unnamed Peeping Tom

This icon represents the "man on the kitchen roof" who gave Minnie Cooper a "man scare" by spying on her while she undressed for bed (171). Although he may have actually existed, the context suggests that the man in the barber shop who recounts this event believes she made him up. We have labeled him "white" because from the larger story it seems clear that if the reported voyeur had been identified as "black," the white men of the town would have had to punish someone.
