Summary:
Rosa Millard's funeral brings together much of the population of Yoknapatawpha that isn't away at the War, blacks as well as whites; the "Jefferson people," who live in town, expect to preside at the service, but instead Brother Fortinbride, one of the country people "in from the hills," delivers a short but powerful tribute to Rosa's greatness of spirit (155). Immediately afterward, Bayard and Ringo talk with Uncle Buck McCaslin about avenging her murder.
