Now free of Redmond as a business partner, John Sartoris finishes the railroad, and at the celebration of the first train into Jefferson, he again antagonizes Redmond in a speech with "a direct and absolutely needless allusion" to him; afterwards, George Wyatt intervenes with Bayard to try to get his father to stop antagonizing him, "to let Redmond alone" (226).
