Summary:
Frustrated by the lack of any serious bid, Buck performs for the crowd, pushing the herd back and felling one of its number with a pistol-butt to the head . Buck leaps on the pony's head, and the animal reacts immediately, throwing the Texan upward who nonetheless lands squarely on the ground and grabs the pony by the forelock with one hand and the nostrils with the other.
