Summary:
Again after Shreve's interruption, Quentin's story resumes, having skipped over the actual killing of Sutpen to describe Wash's reflections on the other side of his disillusionment. As he imagines the "men of Sutpen's own kind" who will be coming for him, the same kind of men who "led the way" for the South during the Civil War, he now sees them as symbols of admiration and "instruments of despair" (232).
