Memphis in "That Will Be Fine" (Location)

Founded in 1819, Memphis, Tennessee, is the closest big city to Jefferson, and it plays a role in many of Faulkner's novels and stories. It often figures as the place where the people of Yoknapatawpha go to misbehave in one way or another. That is presumably Rodney's errand when he takes "the fast train to Memphis" from Kingston, although beyond noting how alarmed "papa" and Uncle Fred are when they learn about the trip, the text provides no details (279).
