The unnamed father of Caddy Compson's child is referred to in the "Appendix" only as "another man" (332). She is "two months pregnant" with his child when she marries her first husband. This 'other man' may be Dalton Ames, who is not mentioned in the "Appendix" but is Caddy's first sexual partner in The Sound and the Fury (1929). However, when in that novel Caddy's brother Quentin asks her in the context of her forthcoming marriage how many sexual partners she has had, she replies "I dont know too many" (115).
