Whitfield's Cabin (Location Key)

In both "A Name for the City" and Requiem for a Nun, just before the settlement gets its name, Doctor Peabody says that "we already got a church" - "Whitfield's cabin" (213-14, 23). The basis for his claim is probably that Whitfield (who does not otherwise appear in person) holds some kind of regular religious service inside his cabin. In later Yoknapatawpha fictions, "Whitfield" is the name of a Protestant minister who preaches in Frenchman's Bend, but although this Whitfield is presumably an ancestor, his cabin must be in a lot closer to what will grow up to be the town of Jefferson.
