Biography:
Dr. Peabody (the only character who appears in all of Faulkner's first three Yoknapatawpha novels) is the Jefferson doctor who pays a home visit to Addie twice, the second time when she dies. He is a large man, “weighing two hundred and twenty-five pounds” (42); in order to climb the hill to the Bundren house he must be hoisted up with a rope. The two chapters he narrates in a colloquial storytelling manner reveal his bemusement at the antics of the Bundrens - especially Anse.
Note:
“durn doctor” p 18, from Jefferson 70 years old 225 pounds. Although he is found in many other texts it is often with much inconsistency – in this text he is never given a first name – he is referred to soley by his last name or simply as “doctor”
