Ab Snopes tells Granny that "there ain't a Yankee regiment left in Mississippi" just a few minutes or hours before a troop of Union cavalry arrives at Sartoris. It is clear that most of the Yankees have left, however, so this is the group that Ab mistakenly creates - that nonetheless deserves to be acknowledged. (By the next story, "Vendee," which takes place just a short time later, all the Union soldiers have in fact moved away to fight elsewhere.)
