Cumulative Character records provide a new biography for and display the complete textual history of the 3724 separate named and unnamed characters that Faulkner created in the Yoknapatawpha fictions, whether the character appears in just 1 or (like Colonel John Sartoris) 21 texts. The Name field searches for a character by all the variants Faulkner created, such as Maury, Benjy and Benjamin Compson; a character's Primary Name is the way they are entered in the Cumulative Character index, i.e. Benjamin Compson but not Maury or Benjy.
